Duke Payne Service Record

PAYNE Duke Horace born about 1893 in Hammersmith, London to Francis William Payne. He enlisted on 24 May 1916 at Saffron Walden aged 23 years 11 months to the Labour Company. At the time of enlistment he was living at Sandy Mount, Henham and married to Maud Payne nee Dixon, his children were Bernard Percy born 29 Sept 1909 in Elsenham, Barbara born 1 Mar 1916 in Henham. His service record shows that he was in France 25 Apr 1917, Home 4 Jan 1918 & 3 Apr 1918, when he was issued his medals the address in 1921 was shown as Loppingdale, Gaunts End, Elsenham. He was granted leave 14 Feb 1918 – 23 Feb 1918 and discharged 5 Mar 1919 with bronchitis and asthma. He died in December 1970 in Bishops Stortford.
