CLARK Edward, Private Aged 26 years 11months when he enlisted on 1 April 1916 Service No 40099 Bedfordshire Regiment, he transferred to a Suffolk Regiment.
Born Henham 13 March 1884 although previously claimed 1890 of Pledgdon Green, Henham; farm labourer; next of kin was his sister Mary Clark of Pledgdon Green/ his mother Mrs A. Sage 45, Kingsland Rd. London then 15, Pelham Rd. South Tottenham.
Home service: 1.4.16 to 6.9.16, France 7.9.16 to 6.2.17, Home 7.2.17 to 3.7.19 deserted, Home 4.7.19 to be imprisoned with hard labour for one year but recommended to mercy on grounds that he was mentally deficient, commuted to 6 months detention. Medically examined at Arras on 8th Sept. 1919. Sent to military hospital at Pymouth with pneumonia; By 1921 his next of kin was his sister Edith Chapman of 7, New Town (Grove Place), Bishops Stortford.
Discharged 5th July 1921 with ‘good’ character stating had previously served with Somehow he enlists 90 days Emergency Service again with Suffolk Reg.on 13th April 1921. Sent home on 5th July 1921.
