Born 1869 Henham; labourer for Mr Spencer of Saffron Walden. Signed for a Short Service on 14th Feb 1889 where he gave his age as 18yrs 10 months and being a labourer. This differs from his other application on 29 Dec 1888. On 13.9.1890 convicted of killing a fowl and sentenced to 7 days imprisonment. Discharged at Woolwich 13th Feb 1902. Father: Stephen of Clavering; sisters: Kate (older) and Jessee (younger). When he enlisted he was living at Clavering Hall.
