War Cemetery in JerusalemBENTLEY, William Arthur, Private, died 02/11/1917, aged 18, enlisted at Henham. Service No. 250925 Essex Regiment 5th Battn. He is remembered on Panels 33 to 39 Jerusalem Memorial.

William was the son William John and Amy Bentley, of High St, Henham, Essex.

William was killed during the 3rd Battle of Gaza which was fought during the night of 1st/2nd November 1917 between British and Ottoman forces during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign.

W. E. Bentley Reported as wounded in Chelmsford Chronicle 14 December 1917. Then reported killed in action 2nd Nov 1917 in Palestine. This may be a typographical error and refers to W.A Bentley.
